the past 2 years R2R has been reinventing itself by evolving from a Dakar focussed race team, into a sustainable charity run solely by unpaid volunteers. We provide cathartic and life enhancing experiences to our UK military veteran community; especially those with life changing conditions. So far this year… […]
What a lovely summer time! Because we didn’t want you to miss any news and/or update we had over the summer, Charles Sincock took some time out of his busy schedule to make a summary. See his message and the link to the update below. Now with the temperatures dropping […]
This months update starts at the massive Royal Bath & West show and all it had to offer for the thousands of people that came by to see us (even Morris Dancers!). Next was BCCC event in Wales which tested the limits that the Freelander could handle, with a track […]
As the month draws to a close and the nights are drawing in it is time to reflect on the last month of incredible activity. The focus has been primarily on the preparation of all vehicles, procurement of parts and spares, the purchase of our fourth and final Wildcat as well as continuation training for the drivers in Morocco. Of course the wonderful pre-Dakar video is here too!
September couldn’t have been any busier for the R2R team with fitness tests, a first and second Place finish in Wales in front of long time supporter and fellow amputee Stephanie Boddez, navigator training with Quin Evans and Boeing UK, Pete Garlick walking all the way from Qt Services in Plymouth to Tedworth House, Tiff Hyde’s incredible firewalk for charity, the team welcomed two US Servicemen to the adventure as well rebuilding and preparing the Qt Wildcats. We also had to make the sad decision to pull out of the Rally de Maroc in October to focus on preparations for the big one in January but we have some plans afoot to ensure that the team are ready so read on!
Since Goodwood the team have benefitted from some excellent coverage on ITV’s Goodwood 2012 programme which saw Steve Ryder interviewing Tony and another great piece in wealth magazine, CDC Lifestyle (click here to read the full story). Land Rover have also released a new YouTube video highlighting their support of the team and why they are supporting this incredible endeavour.
THE WHOLE team are thrilled to announce that Land Rover have joined the Race2Recovery endeavour to complete the 2013 Dakar Rally. With such an iconic global brand joining our existing sponsors the team are really getting into shape for an exciting 8 months of preparation, training and racing with Land Rover developing a training package for the race team later this year, helping with parts and expertise.
Since the team returned from the Tuareg we have been horribly quiet on the updates and this has mainly been down to the team returning to their normal day jobs as everyone is a volunteer amazingly. Sponsorship developments continue apace and we are very lucky to have been so warmly welcomed by a huge number of companies for which we are extremely grateful.
